DESCRIPTION:Join Ag Innovation at Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College on Friday\, June 16\, for an all-day Stockmanship & Stewardship training event focused on Beef Quality Assurance-Transportation with live cattle handling demos at the Tri-County Fairgrounds in Petersburg! Learn proper methods for hauling cattle using a gooseneck trailer or semi-trailer. \nIndustry experts and representatives from Texas A&M Agrilife Extension\, WVU Extension\, and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture will lead workshops and presentations. \nREGISTRATION INFORMATION \n\n$30 fee for all day program\nWalk-ins after 10 a.m. will be charged $15\nAdults and Youth register here\n\nYouth 10+ are welcome to attend if pre-registered and accompanied by an adult or group leader. \n  \nAGENDA \n7:15 – 8 A.M. Registration \n7:30 – 8 A.M. Corn beef hash breakfast from Flying W Farms \n8:15 A.M. – 10 A.M. BQA Training instructed by Kevin Shaffer\, assistant professor and livestock production specialist at WVU Extension \n10 – 10:15 A.M. Break (complimentary water and soda will be provided throughout the day) \n10:15 A.M. – 12 P.M. Cattle handling demonstration by Dr. Ron Gill\, professor and extension livestock specialist at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension \n12 – 12:45 P.M. Complimentary steak and cheese hoagies from Flying W Farms \n12:45 – 1 P.M. Sponsor and showcase of equipment for sale by Mountainview and Pearson Equipment \n1 – 1:30 P.M. Cattle health and fitness for transport\, import regulations\, and ADT requirements by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture  \n1:30 – 3 P.M. Cattle handling demonstration \n3 – 3:30 P.M. Cattle handling Q&A session \n3:30 – 4 P.M. Vendor highlight and raffle drawing \nADDITIONAL INFORMATION \nBeef producers will spend the early morning learning science-based production practices that assure cattle well-being\, beef quality\, and safety from WVU Extension Livestock Specialist Kevin Shaffer. BQA programs include best practices around cattle handling\, facility management\, and protecting herd health. \nThe mid-morning and afternoon session will feature Dr. Ron Gill from Texas A&M Extension. Dr. Gill will conduct a hands-on workshop to demonstrate proper methods for hauling and handling cattle\, including reviewing fitness for transport\, trip planning and loading\, biosecurity\, and emergency management. During this training event\, we will focus on the farmer’s emphasis on using a gooseneck trailer and a professional driver with an emphasis on semi-trailers. \nWest Virginia veterinarians seeking non-medical continuing education credits: This all-day program has been approved for five hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval.
