SUMMARY:First-Gen Proud: Essay Contest
DESCRIPTION:We are thrilled to introduce our inaugural 1st GEN PROUD ESSAY CONTEST! \nThis competition serves as a platform to highlight the accomplishments of our first-generation students\, spanning all phases of their academic journeys. \nWe extend a warm invitation to first-generation students to share a concise personal essay in response to the following query: \n“What does being First Gen Proud mean to you? What aspects of being a first-generation college student fill you with pride? What unique strengths do you possess as a first-gen student\, and how have your experiences bolstered your academic pursuits?” \nEssay submissions should range from 400 to 500 words. Please also submit a selfie to be used on the website and/or social media! The essays will undergo an impartial evaluation process by esteemed faculty members from the Department of English. \nThe deadline is November 8\, 2023. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dreama Kelly\, Life Skills Coach and owner of the Your Life Coaching WV\, LLC.  \nThis workshop will be held in Room 104b at Eastern’s main campus in Moorefield and over Zoom on Monday\, November 6 at Noon. Join the Zoom session on the day of\, at https://bit.ly/3sYBtTd. \nIntroduction: \n“People fear what they don’t understand.” When it comes to Mental Health Care\, this statement is especially true. Individuals suffering from mental health disorders shy away from seeking treatment\, many times for the sake of labeling alone. This workshop has been created to shed some light on issues facing society in unimaginable ways.” \nDescription & Objective: \nThis workshop provides a brief overview of mental health-related maladies\, statistics on deaths related to mental health\, and stigmas that prevent individuals from seeking treatment for mental health-related issues.
