Net Price Calculator
With a full-time full year tuition of $3,432 (current in-state resident), Eastern is currently the most affordable Community and Technical College in the state of West Virginia.
If a student wishes to determine the full cost of attending college, however, he or she should also add the per-semester cost of books, academic supplies and student fees.
To calculate the net, total estimated cost of attending Eastern (also referred to below as the "estimated net cost" or "the Net Price Estimate"), and in line with the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, the U.S. Department of Education offers all current and prospective students and their families the 2014-2015 Net Price Calculator:
In addition to the direct college-attendance costs of tuition, books, supplies and student fees noted above, the Department of Education adds normal living expenses — such as room and board, transportation, and other personal expenses — when calculating its official estimated cost.
So when using the Net Price Calculator (NPC), current and prospective students should note that the final net, total estimated cost includes some living expenses not directly related to college-attendance — expenses that individuals would likely need to consider even if they were not attending college.
Designed by the U.S. Department of Education, the NPC offers a straight-forward way of determining the Net Price Estimate cost of attending Eastern; that is, the total estimated cost minus any grant aid that a student might receive, but before any student loans have been counted.
In other words, according to the Department of Education, adding the total cost of:
- books and supplies
- room and board
- other expenses: transportation and personal expenses
and then subtracting the total estimated grant (merit-based aid + need-based aid) = the Net Price Estimate. (And remember: the Net Price Estimate includes normal living expenses that the student and family would have to cover — and which they could then use student loans to pay for.)
The Net Price Estimate will vary according to each individual's particular life situation, depending on such factors as personal family circumstances, income and financial need — because those factors can increase or decrease the amount of grant funds (merit-based aid + need-based aid) a student will receive (which, according to the formula described above, are subtracted from the total estimated cost to find the Net Price Estimate).

The automated Net Price Calculator uses your individual responses to calculate an estimated amount that students like you — that is, students in similar circumstances — paid out-of-pocket — after grant aid and scholarships, but before student loans — to attend Eastern in a given year:
