Community Leadership and Civil Advocacy Certificate

• In partnership with Shepherd University & The Stubblefield Institute for Civil Political Communications

This program uses a combination of online self-paced modules, in-person and virtual workshops, hands-on learning, participation in civic or community activities, and mentoring to help students develop their leadership and advocacy skills and explore civic engagement.

Program Overview

The CLCA certificate is open to students of all majors. It brings intention, reflection, personal development, and community-building to your community leadership journey.

Program Outcomes

Through this certificate, students will be able to:

  • Make an impact on a cause or issue you care about.
  • Meet other students on campus and statewide who are passionate about making a difference in their communities.
  • Networking opportunities with nonprofits, businesses, legislators, and individuals working on issues you care about.
  • Learn to advocate for yourself and your loved ones.
  • Gain skills for your portfolio, resume, or CV.

Program Requirements

  • Attend 7 monthly sessions, September 2024 - April 2025 (Dec. excluded) to engage with other students locally & statewide.
  • Complete an impact project focused on a cause or issue important to you.
  • Periodic meetings with the program mentor for goal setting & project guidance.
