EWVCTC Introduces New AAS in Skilled Trades — Supporting WV’s STAND Program

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College is now offering an Associate of Applied Science in Skilled Trades. This program is designed to support the state of West Virginia’s Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Nontraditional Degree (STAND) Program. This opportunity provides working apprentices and apprenticeship certificate holders with the ability to earn an A.A.S. degree without interrupting their employment or training. Students will complete 60 credit hours composed of three main components required to earn the degree: 15 credit hours of general education coursework through Eastern, 40 credit hours awarded for qualifying apprenticeship-related technical instruction; and 5 credit hours awarded for qualifying on-the-job training. STAND supports workforce advancement and increases credential attainment in high-demand skilled trades fields.

Prospective students should apply for the STAND program financial assistance, which is available through College for West Virginia (CFWV) at https://www.cfwv.com/financial-aid/stand/apply-now/. Other financial assistance opportunities like the WV Invests Grant, WV Higher Ed Grant, and the WV Promise Scholarship can also be found on CFWV’s website.
