Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College is pleased to announce the hiring of Sherry Michael as its new Education Programs Coordinator.
Michael will provide leadership for Eastern’s Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education and Residential Care Specialists programs. She will develop and maintain relationships with local, state, regional and national education agencies involved in the development and certification of educators, serve as the liaison with Eastern’s partner institution, develop innovative programs and partnerships, teach courses, advise students, certify students for graduation and prepare preliminary class schedules. She will additionally oversee the program advisory committee and be responsible for facilitating adjunct faculty development and performance reviews.
Prior to Eastern, Michael worked at the Hardy County Child Care Center and has been a classroom lead teacher in Head Start, taught Pre-K in the Grant County School System and worked as the behavioral consultant with Mountain Heart Community Services.
“I am very excited to join the Eastern staff and looking forward to working with everyone here,” she said. “I enjoy working with adult students because I can relate to a lifestyle of juggling work, raising my children, housekeeping and going to school. I have been there and can closely relate to what many of our students are dealing with on a daily basis. It can be done. I am proof.”
Michael has a bachelor’s degree in early childhood development from Kaplan University, graduating cum laude and a masters in elementary education with a special needs specialization from Kaplan. She additionally holds an ACDS certification, West Virginia STARS Trainer certification, West Virginia Infant Toddler (WVIT) certificate and Program for Infant Toddler Care (PITC) certificate.
