America’s Promise Job Driven Grant Program (Moorefield, WV) – Starting this fall, Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College (Eastern) will be offering tuition-free courses for in-demand programs in both Healthcare and Advanced Manufacturing. Healthcare programs include: Emergency Medical Services (EMS)/Paramedic, Pharmacy Technician and Health Information Coder/Technician. Eastern will be introducing several new tuition-free offerings in Advanced Manufacturing. Industry-recognized credentials, through the National Institute of Metalworking Skills (NIMS), will be offered in several areas of Industrial Technology Maintenance. Program areas will include: Basic Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, Electronic Control Systems, and Process Control Systems. These educational and training opportunities will be funded through the America’s Promise Job Driven Grant Program. Eastern will join forces with Allegany College of Maryland, and Dabney S. Lancaster Community College in Virginia to form the Route 220 America’s Promise (AP220) Consortium Project. The AP220 Project has received a multi-year, $3.6 million award. The goal of the grant is to provide individuals the opportunity to receive high-quality, tuition-free education, and training that leads to industry-recognized credentials and degrees. Funding is availability for participants who wish to pursue a career pathway leading to employment, but lack the resources to do so. The AP220 Project, through partnerships with industry leaders, workforce development, community and technical colleges, economic development committees, and community stakeholders, will coordinate existing programs to reduce financial barriers for participants. “This program is a tremendous opportunity for both the workforce and businesses throughout Potomac Highlands Region,” stated David Smarik, Consortium Director for the AP220 Project. “Eastern we be working diligently to prepare participants for in-demand employment opportunities.” For additional information of these programs, please call Eastern WVCTC at (304) 434-8000.
