Eastern Partners with Weimer Automotive to Establish Learn & Earn Program

Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College has announced a new partnership with Weimer Automotive to provide a “Learn and Earn” program for students enrolled in its automotive technology program. Starting in Fall 2022, the Learn and Earn program will provide second-year automotive technology students an opportunity to experience working in a dealership, practice their learning outcomes and be paid while they train for their careers.

“This is an exciting opportunity for our automotive technology students to gain experience and help to strengthen their understanding of working in the automotive industry while receiving compensation, which helps to offset the cost of a college degree,” said Dr. Tom Striplin, Eastern President. Weimer also benefits from the new partnership. “Having students train in the dealership provides Weimer an opportunity to assess work habits, dependability, and skills prior to consideration for employment,” stated Gareth Hill, General Manager of Weimer Chevrolet Buick GMC of Moorefield.

“Once we evaluate our model, we can look to offer similar Learn and Earn partnerships with other interested dealerships”, adds Striplin. Weimer has also recently donated a 2013 Chevrolet Cruz for Eastern’s automotive technology program.
