Moorefield, W.Va. – Melanie Callaway, a resident of Davis, West Virginia, has been hired as Nursing Faculty for the LPN to RN Bridge Program at Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College. She is originally from Mississippi, then moved around until finally ending up in Tucker County, where she has been for the last fifteen years. In Davis, she lives with her husband, John, pastor of Community Bible Church and a school bus driver for Tucker County Schools. They have six children, four sons and two daughters, plus two daughter-in-laws, and two grandchildren with another on the way. Callaway is an Eastern graduate, having been a part of the 2020 Nursing Cohort. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing from Western Governors University and is pursuing a master of science degree in nursing education. Callaway has an extensive nursing background. She has worked as a Med-Surg RN at Garrett Regional Medical Center, a Home Health RN for Preston Memorial Home Care, and a Primary Care RN for St. George Medical Clinic Canaan Valley. “I am also a certified Faith-Community Nurse,” said Callaway.
In her free time, Callaway enjoys reading, nature, and bird-watching. “My family and I moved to West Virginia from Bolivia where I lived a total of 13 years,” said Callaway, “first as the daughter of missionaries and later serving with my husband as a missionary. I speak Spanish, though I am a bit rusty.” When asked about what she has enjoyed so far at Eastern, she said, “Eastern means a lot to me personally. The staff and faculty here were instrumental in helping me launch my career as a nurse and now a nursing instructor. I appreciate their dedication to the success of their students and their commitment to growth and excellence. There is a real sense of caring about each student here at Eastern, and I am excited to be a part of that.”
