Skilled Trades (STAND)

Designed to support the state’s Skilled Trades Apprenticeship Nontraditional Degree (STAND) Program.

Program Overview

This program provides working apprentices and apprenticeship certificate holders with the ability to earn an A.A.S. degree without interrupting their employment or training. It has been designed to support the STAND program, which supports workforce advancement and increases credential attainment in high-demand skilled trades fields.

2 Year A.A.S. Degree

Associate in Applied Science • 60 Credit Hours

Students will complete 60 credit hours composed of three main components required to earn the degree:

  • 15 credit hours of general education coursework through Eastern.
  • 40 credit hours awarded for qualifying apprenticeship-related technical instruction.
  • 5 credit hours awarded for qualifying on-the-job training.

What is STAND?

The STAND Program helps skilled trades professionals turn their apprenticeship into a college degree. If you’re in a registered skilled trade apprenticeship — or have completed one — your training may already count as college credit toward an Associate of Applied Science degree.

How It Works

Step 1: Apply to Eastern WVCTC at

Step 2: Your skilled trade apprenticeship counts as college credit.

Step 3: Apply to STAND online at cfwv.com/financial-aid-/stand

Step 4: Enroll at Eastern WVCTC (if you haven't already)

Step 4: Complete general education courses

Step 5: Earn your associate degree

Who Qualifies?

  1. Be a West Virginia resident
  2. Are currently enrolled in or have completed a registered skilled trade apprenticeship
  3. Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  4. Enroll at a Eastern WVCTC

Admissions Requirements

Eastern adheres to an open admission policy which means applications with a high school diploma or GED are eligible for admission.
