What is something you learned (knowledge, training, skills) during Eastern’s Workforce training program that you utilize in your workplace and/or current training?
I utilize my skills learned in the medical assistant course daily. Something that particularly came in handy was my phlebotomy training. I draw labs from a variety of patients every day. My training has given me the ability to do so successfully and as painlessly as possible. My clinical training has given me the ability to work alongside providers as we provide medical care to our community.
Did trainers/instructors/staff at Eastern contribute to your career success? How did they help you?
My instructors not only contributed to my career success by teaching me, but they also gave me an opportunity to put my skills to use by giving me a job opportunity. Both of my instructors worked at Love Memorial Clinic at the time, and they encouraged me to apply for the position of CCMA. Once I got the position, they continued to help me learn as much as possible on the job. I can truly say that I am a better Medical Assistant because of their dedication to teaching me about the medical field.
What advice would you give to current Workforce students at Eastern who are looking to follow a similar path to a job?
I would advise those taking the Workforce courses to take your training to new levels. Learning does not have to stop in the classroom. Shadow those in your field to get a true feel for your future career and practice your skills in and out of the classroom. Hard work does not go unnoticed by employers and it is that hard work that will allow you to become better. Even though it may feel impossible to strive in your prospective field, your efforts do pay off.

A personal accomplishment that I am particularly proud of is that I have been working as a medical assistant for almost a year now and I am loving my job! I am still learning new things. Most importantly, I am able to work with patients in a clinical setting and strive to give them the best experience at Love Memorial Clinic I possibly can. It is because of my instructors from Eastern that I am the best medical assistant that I can be.
