“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Eastern values diversity, mutual respect, and freedom of speech – a right protected by the 1st Amendment. However, we will never condone or tolerate displays of hate, discrimination, or bigotry and strongly condemn violent displays of intolerance. While we encourage the sharing of thoughts and ideas, our top priority remains safety and justice for all.
Eastern shares the grief and outrage of the death of George Floyd and so many before him. We stand against any and all hatred, intolerance, and racism. We must stand together against injustice. We must also educate ourselves in our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Unfortunately, we are seeing individuals, organized groups and gangs hijacking the peaceful message of protestors who are expressing their voices for inclusion, equality, acceptance, dignity and justice for all people.
Eastern stands in peaceful solidarity with protesters who believe it is time to heal, restore peace and justice in our communities for all people.
