I have enrolled in Liberty University Online’s program. I am getting a dual degree in Secondary Education: Social Studies and History.
What is something you learned (content knowledge, study skills, technology, etc.) while taking classes at Eastern that has helped in your current/previous studies?
While attending the first few years of my degree at Eastern I learned several things. First, I gained valuable information that relates to my discipline. There is an ignorant opinion that people who go to community colleges are not as “smart” compared to a four-year institution. This cannot be further from the truth. The skills that I attained from Eastern are immaculate. I learned how to study and learn collegiate material from professors who actually know your name. The experience and exposure that Eastern provided me, gave me the foundational building blocks for the rest of my academic career.

There is one professor who stood out to me more than others during my time with the institution. Professor Samuel Crockett is an excellent professor who truly cares for his students. Sam is someone that I communicate with often and constantly strives for student learning and engagement. He is truly a mentor to whom I look up to. From the handful of professors that I had, I truly believe most are excellent.
What advice would you give to current high school students who are looking to follow a similar path like yours toward continued studies?
The path that I took encompassed getting my associate degree a semester before my high school diploma. This is an accomplishment that had never been reached by a student of Hardy County Schools. I encourage students who are academically gifted to pursue these dual-enrollment courses as soon as possible. I hope to pave a path for students of Hardy County Schools to achieve this accomplishment.
