Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College has hired Dr. Thomas (Tom) Fuhr as the Interim Dean of Community Engagement and Partnerships. As the chief workforce education and community partnerships officer, Dr. Fuhr will be responsible for the development and implementation of instructional systems, credit and non-credit instructional programs, and services in support of employers, economic development professionals, and life-long learning.
Dr. Fuhr has over 35 years of experience in higher education academic administration with emphasis on lifelong, extended and distance learning. He has worked in community colleges, private and four-year public institutions in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York State, and has three years educational consulting and research experience in the for-profit sector, and over fifteen years of part-time teaching undergraduate Business and graduate Executive and Organizational Leadership courses. Dr. Fuhr also has expertise in acquiring state education department and accrediting association branch campus approval, including working with the Ministry of Education to deliver graduate education programs to Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Fuhr holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Higher Education with a minor in International Communications from The American University, a Master of Arts in Educational Administration with a minor in Political Science from East Carolina University, and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from The American University.
Since 2004, Dr. Fuhr has served as an adjunct instructor at various institutions. He has published numerous articles and delivered presentations for higher education throughout his career. He, and his wife, Karen, currently live outside of Charlotte, North Carolina, and have three sons, three daughters-in-law, and eight grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, boating, golfing, and other types of outdoor activities.
