Funding Now Available for Eastern’s Auto Tech Programs

Funding for Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College’s Automotive Technology Program is now available with the West Virginia Invests Grant Program.

Eastern’s Automotive Technology program provides a technical education at the Associate in Applied Science level with 60 credit hours of study. Through instruction and practical application, students gain the knowledge and skills required of the modern automotive technician. Eastern also offers a College Certificate Program in Automotive Technology for only 30 credit hours and several shorter course sequences are offered through Skill Sets.

The Automotive Technology Programs have recently been approved for West Virginia Invests funding.

The West Virginia Invests Grant Program is a state-funded financial aid program that covers the tuition costs for select certificate and associate degree programs at West Virginia’s community colleges. Priority is given to programs in high-demand fields, such as information technology, business management, healthcare, wind technology, and now automotive technology program. This is a last-dollar-in program, meaning that it will pay for the cost of tuition that is not already covered by other state or federal grants or scholarships.

The program does require a drug screen, two hours of community service, and for students to maintain a cumulative 2.0-grade point average each semester. Participants are also required to reside in West Virginia for two years after they complete their degree or certificate program, or the grant funds revert into a loan that will be repaid.
