LaVALE, Md. – Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College (Eastern) and Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) have signed an agreement that will allow Eastern students to take industrial maintenance training courses at ACM’s state-of-the-art Western Maryland Works Training Center and Makerspace in LaVale, Md.
The core industrial maintenance programs available to Eastern students are: Maintenance Operations, Basic Mechanical Systems, Basic Hydraulic Systems, Basic Pneumatic Systems, Electrical Systems, Electrical Control Systems, Process Control Systems, Maintenance Welding, and Maintenance Piping.
These core trainings can be taken as needed or stacked together to complete two certificate pathways – electrical or mechanical.
In addition to the core trainings, a FANUC robotics training course is available, as well as a comprehensive 10-month Manual and CNC Machinist I program.
West Virginia residents who register for any of these industrial maintenance trainings through Eastern may be eligible for financial support through the Higher Education Adult Part-Time Student (HEAPS) Workforce Development program. Eligible HEAPS students may receive up to $2,000 in funding to use for tuition, required testing, and required supplies.
The industrial maintenance partnership agreement was signed during ACM’s official dedication and ribbon cutting at the Western Maryland Works Training Center and Makerspace on Aug. 18 by Cynthia Bambara, Ph.D., president of ACM, and Thomas Striplin, Ed.D., president of Eastern.
“We’re grateful for our business and educational partnerships that make Western Maryland Works possible, including our newest Memorandum of Understanding with Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College,” said Bambara. “This MOU is a prime example demonstrating the importance of collaboration instead of competition to better serve the educational and training needs of our community.”
Striplin echoed that sentiment in his comments. “This is a great example of how two institutions can collaborate to benefit the workforce in the region. We look forward to working with Allegany College through this partnership,” he said.
