UVA’s Blandy Experimental Farm Invites Students to Apply for Summer 2026 Ecological Research Experience

Boyce, V.a. Eastern West Virginia Community & Technical College (EWVCTC) is excited to inform students that the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program at the University of Virginia’s Blandy Experimental Farm is recruiting students who are interested in science or are pursuing a degree in the Biological & Environmental Technology (BET) program at EWVCTC.

The REU program at Blandy emphasizes experimental, field-based approaches to a wide variety of topics on the theme of Ecological Impacts of Environmental Stressors such as plant-animal interactions, pollination ecology, landscape ecology, and ecosystem ecology.

Students are encouraged to apply for the opportunity to experience mentored ecological research during the summer of 2026. Successful applicants will receive a stipend, financial support for travel, a budget for research supplies, and free housing at the Blandy Experimental Farm field station. Each student is matched with a research mentor from a pool of faculty members and graduate students for guidance to conduct an independent research project. The students will gain experience in experimental design, data collection, analytical techniques, and written and oral presentation of findings. REU students also benefit from several professional development workshops and research community activities throughout the program.

Nathan Van Vranken, Eastern BET program coordinator is available to assist students in completing the application. Blandy personnel will also be conducting recruitment sessions, but dates are still to be determined. For more information, please visit https://blandy.virginia.edu/reu-program-ecology.
