Food Agriculture Entrepreneur Program

Program Overview

The Agricultural Growth through Entrepreneurship Experience (AGEE) Program is an internship program offered through Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College that allows participants to receive hands-on experience working in agribusiness to expand their knowledge in this area of interest.

The internship experience offers an excellent opportunity to foster and build an understanding of small business structures, finances, marketing, and agribusiness management in the Potomac Highlands region of West Virginia. Students will also have the chance to connect with many of our local producers and business owners.

Through this program, up to six accepted students will receive educational waivers for up to $500 of agriculture workforce micro credential training and $500 of agricultural academic classes. Additionally, students will earn $12 an hour during their 40-hour internship with the Potomac Highlands Producers program and consultation from the project's business coach, David Workman. After all requirements have been met, successful completers will receive a $700 stipend.

Eastern's Agriculture Innovation department aims to provide affordable and equitable short-term micro credential certificates covering various topics, including Livestock Management Systems, Horticulture Management Systems, Agribusiness Diversification and Value-Adding, and Farm Business Management. The 40-hour internship will take place within the College's Potomac Highlands Producers Program, which is a locally-sourced monthly food box program that aims to provide consistent business and support for local farmers, while simultaneously providing farm fresh food to our community.

This program is a perfect opportunity for high school students and young adults who hope to pursue a career in agriculture and are looking to expand their knowledge through work experience in the field.

Start date is flexible!

Students will be expected to:

  • Complete at least one agriculture academic course
  • Complete at least one agriculture micro credential pathway
